After completing a qualification with Cornwall College James was unable to find a job in his desired industry. James saw the advert for an Apprenticeship in Business and Administration with Truro and Penwith College and thought it would be a great opportunity to get some beneficial training as well as full time employment.
As part of his Apprenticeship James worked for the College’s Business Centre and his day to day role included dealing with learner enquiries, ordering stationery, managing equipment, processing post and collating course materials. “It was really exciting when I started my Apprenticeship – I was given my own desk and my own area of work to manage.”
“I do feel that it has made me more confident in my own abilities, and in my ability to deal with situations.” As a result of the taught sessions and on-the-job training James is now happy to do things he never had the confidence to do before. James comments “I hated using the telephone to start with, but now I use it every day it’s just another part of my day to day job.”
Following his Apprenticeship, James has now secured an excellent (and very well paid position) with the Inland Revenue and he puts this success down to achieving his Apprenticeship “I feel it has helped give me the experience, skills and confidence that employers are looking for and that has been a massive help in the current job market!”
