Verity Ash, 21 , decided not to go straight to university after achieving her 'A' levels in English Language, Health and Social Care and Psychology at Ferndown Upper School, but went to work for First Class Nursery instead. Having completed her Advanced Apprenticeship, Verity is now going on to do her Early Years Foundation Degree starting later this year.
Verity undertook an Advanced Apprenticeship in Children's Care Learning and Development, with Wessex Training and Assessment Ltd based in Dorset .To achieve the apprenticeship, Verity had to complete units in Children's Care Learning and Development, a technical certificate, a paediatric first aid course and key skills in Communication and Application of Number.
First Class Nursery is a small day nursery in Ferndown. As well as catering for young children from 2 years of age they also have an after school club for older children attending schools in the Ferndown area. The nursery employs 8 staff. Verity's job includes ensuring that children are safe, assessing the children's development and planning for individual children, in consultation with their parents, and at all times being a role model for the children to follow.Verity also has to work as part of a team, so getting on with other people of different ages and backgrounds is important
Sue Stockley from Wessex Training & Assessment said "Verity has undertaken her apprenticeship with great enthusiasm. She has produced some excellent work. The children and her employer will all benefit from this enthusiasm. ‘
