Qualification: Intermediate Apprenticeship in Children's Care, Learning and Development

Case Study

Imogen is 20 years old and has completed an apprenticeship in Children's Care, Learning and Development within Chipmunks Nursery, Weymouth, Dorset. Imogen's apprenticeship was supported by Wessex Training and Assessment Ltd.

Apprentices with Wessex Training focus on the practical skills required to work as an assistant within childcare.

Chipmunks Nursery based in Weymouth and Dorchester offer care and education for children 0 - 12 years of age.

Imogen works with children across the age range, providing individual care and attention throughout the day.   Professional support from her employer has allowed Imogen to develop the skills needed by the nursery and as a result, she has been given extra responsibilities.

Reflecting on her career progression Imogen says, " I moved from 'A' levels at Weymouth College to the apprenticeship scheme to gain qualifications within childcare. The way that Wessex has supported me through the process  has suited my needs better than the more academic route. I would not have achieved it without my assessor's help".

Lynn Croucher from Wessex Training commented that "As a training provider we believe in looking at individual needs and tailoring the apprenticeship to meet them. Imogen's confidence has grown immensely and she will make an excellent leader in the future. Wessex Training use a variety of methods for the apprentice  to gain the knowledge and skills that can then be demonstrated within the workplace. Developing their skills is of paramount importance and employers appreciate the sensitive and supportive manner in which our company works".
